Developing effective communication skills is one of the most important areas to focus on if we want to update ourselves and make a positive difference in our career. 

 

1.  EFFECTIVE  COMMUNICATION SKILLS 
In a study polling top executives in fifty-eight of the world’s largest companies, every single executive named ‘Communication Skills’ as a major factor in his or her advancement.  Graduates of business schools report that communication skills are the most valued training they’ve received.

Employers make quick decisions about an interviewee’s perceived people/communication skills and whether they are likely to ‘fit in’ and get on with people.  Communicating clearly is imperative if you have career aspirations.

Assertive communication rather than aggressive or passive communication gets positive results. 
Good listening skills and utilising effective questioning techniques with yourself and others enables you to develop more conscious communication based on awareness and response rather than unconscious reactions that impact negatively on interactions and relationships.

One of the main reasons people miss out on promotions or new business is poor relating skills.  This equally applies if you are the boss and want to attract and keep reliable, motivated staff to enhance the business. 

 

2.  BODY LANGUAGE FOR SUCCESS 
First Impressions count – within 5 minutes of meeting, people decide whether they like, dislike, trust or mistrust each other.

Between 55 – 90% of this is communicated via our body language.  Dressing appropriately for the situation alongside positive, open body language develops rapport and creates a positive personal impact to increase career opportunities.

Noticing and learning how to read the non-verbal cues of others can help smooth over difficult situations.  Becoming aware when someone is not being truthful, defining whether they like or distrust you and assisting you to determine the actions to take to gain the best outcome. 

Whatever your role in life we are selling ourselves to each other in one way or another every single day whether we are aware of it or not.  So knowing how to manage your body language and effectively read others is pivotal for career and life success.

Become conscious of the messages your body language is sending others and take charge to improve your interactions.  Being consciously ‘in action’ to self manage your non-verbal communication will enable you to approach any situation in a grounded, centred manner, increasing your self belief and self confidence exponentially.  It it is the quickest most effective way to influence how you feel about yourself and how others feel about you.

 

3.  AUTHENTICITY 
Being true to yourself increases your self esteem and allows you to ‘Get Real’, which increases your level of fulfilment and happiness in all areas of life.  The more we know, accept and back ourselves the greater our belief in our ability to succeed and the more positively we come across to others. 

Taking authentic leadership of your life starts with an awareness of what is working and being honest about what needs tweaking.  Being clear about what is important to you and living your life focused towards your values will enable you to stay more fully present to living more authentically.

1.  A VISION 
A Career Vision is important if you want career success.  Without a clear focus positive end results are highly unlikely.

Defining what we want in a job or career (or even identifying what we don’t want – what we want is usually the opposite of that) will enable us to focus our aim.  Break things down to design your big picture is an evolving process.  Get specific (pay, location, job tasks, hours, colleagues, preferred management style, opportunities etc.) to define the goals you really want to achieve. 

Asking yourself ‘What do I want the outcome to be here?’ is a valuable exercise to gain clarity about what is really important to you (your values) making it much easier to get clearer about the goals you really want to achieve in your career.

2.  A POSITIVE ATTITUDE 
The single most important quality to have is a good attitude.  Being positive, reliable, willing to learn, showing a refreshing willingness to go the extra mile and most importantly being open to getting along with people will make you a valuable asset in any business and in life.

Your thinking literally creates your life.  It defines your attitude which has a knock on effect in every area of your life including your career.  When we think negatively it impacts how we feel and that in turn determines the action or inaction we take in any situation and how we come across to others. 

Focusing on ‘what is working’ in your career or life and building on that rather than dwelling on ‘what’s wrong’ will serve you well, enhance your ability to get on with others and increase your career opportunities.

Before you start relating in any situation check your attitude, focus it positively to lift your energy vibration and increase your opportunity to succeed.   

 

3.  PUNCTUALITY
Being punctual reflects your ability to organise yourself and shows respect for other people’s as well as your own time.  People who are punctual usually have less time off work and project more confidence as they feel more in charge.  Poor punctuality and absenteeism are among the most common reasons that people lose their jobs. 

Researchers estimate that 15 to 20 percent of the population is afflicted with chronic lateness. Fortunately, with some self-examination, motivation, and practice, people who suffer from this affliction can deal with it successfully and learn to be on time.

There is no such thing as good time management, there is only good Self Management.  Prioritising what is important to you, setting clear boundaries around your time and  energy and taking decisive action puts you in charge and gets results.  This earns respect from others, increasing your level of influence and elevating your personal impact.  Punctuality builds trust and reflects your level of Self Mastery in life.

Managing Fear during Growth Spurts

We all deal with fears, stress and anxiety at times as we expand and grow.  It seems to be a natural part of life and brings our attention to the fact that something is missing for us in that moment. What is missing during those times is usually a feeling of safety and certainty. Here are some simple techniques to help create stability and centre us during our growth spurts as conscious entrepreneurs.   Break it Down When facing new challenges that elicit fear, overwhelm or stress the first thing to do is break it down into a series of small steps. Complete each small step one at a time to make it more manageable and increase your chances of success. Visualise.   At times we can experience fearful thoughts that may be hard to manage. Visualize a Red STOP sign to interrupt the negative thought. Take a breath and replace the thought with a positive affirmation eg. ‘I am always given the courage to move through difficult situations and succeed’. Get the Facts.  When we encounter challenging situations that upset us it is valuable to remember to get all the facts. Gathering the facts prevents us from scaring ourselves with exaggerated and fearful assumptions.  Check out what is real and what is not by asking yourself – ‘Is this real?’, ‘What is the worst that could happen?’ ‘What support could I get to help me with this?’  Re-focus.   We always have a choice to dwell on the negative things in life or choose to focus on all the positive things around us and acknowledge and be grateful for those. As they say ‘ Take Action.  Ask – ‘What small action can I take right now that will make me feel in charge?’ then take it.  Taking action gets you moving rather than going round and round in your head, empowering you to move through any fears and anxieties that pop up one step at a time. Everyone faces fears at some time in their life especially when trying new things, it is normal. Overcoming fears and anxieties is not always easy and might take some hard work and persistence but by using strategies to face, move through and overcome these fears your trust in your own abilities grows along with your self confidence and self belief.  So, you could look at fear as a positive opportunity to grow and expand as it is moving you towards a stronger believe in yourself, how good is that? 1.    This book is about conscious business and being a conscious entrepreneur. What does being a conscious entrepreneur mean to you?

Being a conscious entrepreneur for me means living life and business from my values, with awareness, integrity and purpose to create greater Win/Wins for all concerned.

 2.    What inspired you to be a contributing author in Align, Expand and Succeed?

I had started writing my own book prior to getting involved in this project, but felt drawn to become involved in this project with like minded entrepreneurs as I had been writing about Conscious Collaboration within the individual and it resonated with my beliefs and experiences. 

My business Think Success & Synergy Effect Coaching assists people to engage their mind emotions, spirit and actions in greater collaboration. Generating clarity, focus, empowered expression and congruent team action for the individual towards creating the life they desire. 

So when this collaboration was suggested, it felt like a perfect opportunity to put my beliefs and experience into action on a greater scale to Consciously Collaborate in my business. 

 

3.    Why is the topic of Align, Expand and Succeed important to you?

As the title suggests, I believe life is a journey of coming into Alignment with ourselves in order to live authentically from our values and our heart to be who we truly came to be this lifetime.  To do this we need to Expand and grow in order to generate Success from an integral place within us that is based on who we are at our very core.  Rather than on anything we believe others or society think we ‘should’ be in order to Succeed. 

Alignment is about coming home to ourselves and when we are truly living from that place Success is always present.  It is however an ongoing journey of Expansion as we are continually evolving much the same as nature and our planet.   

 

4.    Why are you specially qualified to write about this topic?

My own personal journey, business experience and international qualifications alongside 17 years working with clients in the personal development field, I believe makes me qualified to write on this topic. 

Overcoming family dysfunction, addiction, illness and living a life out of sync with who I truly was, enabled me to experience the wonderful gifts each of those life lessons brought me and has given me a wealth of experience to understand and help others who are not walking in their full power for whatever reason.

My previous business background alongside International qualifications in Mind/Body Analysis, Counseling, Emotional Anatomy, Hypnotherapy, Aromatherapy, Yoga, Reiki Master, Life and Leadership Coaching, helps me assist people to rise above their limitations to take greater and more authentic leadership of their lives.

 

5.    Do you write to make money, for the love of writing or both?

I write for the love of it to give my heart a voice and inspire people to take charge of their life more consciously. 

I also enjoy receiving money for my work as it is a medium that is used at this time in history to validate and replenish. Being paid to do what you love creates a wonderful balance of heartfelt creativity and abundance. 

 

6.    What makes you proud about your involvement with Align, Expand and Succeed?

I feel honoured to be part of such a unique and awesome group of conscious entrepreneurs and feel humbled by everyone’s generosity to assist and support each other in this wonderful journey we have taken together.

It has been a huge learning curve for me with many 1^st’s and I feel I have grown tremendously personally and professionally by having the courage to say ‘Yes’ and trust the process – no mean feat at times.  The journey has definitely been as rewarding as the final outcome of receiving this wonderful book in my hand.  

Much like life if we allow ourselves to enjoy the journey life becomes soooo much richer!

  

7.    What does the future hold for you and your books?

I have become involved in another collaboration ‘101 ways to enhance your career’ and that book is due out in November and works wonderfully alongside ‘Align, Expand, Succeed’ to share with my client base.

The next book I will be involved in is my own which I have already started and want to complete by the end of next year.  This is a book about the journey to authentic leadership of life from the inside out and I am looking forward to continuing with that.

I would like to continue to write articles for publications and magazines as I have been doing and get paid well from now on, that would be wonderful. 

 

8.    What makes this a book that other people MUST read and WHY?

I have to say I don’t believe in ‘Musts’ as it needs to be about choice and feeling compelled to engage and I feel this book does just that. 

It is exciting and stabilizing at the same time as it holds the life and business experiences of many wonderful authors who have chosen to live consciously and succeed in the business arena.  It brings great insight into how to emulate alignment, expansion and true success and truly live life and business from an Inspired place.

This book delivers exactly what you need and want if you choose to claim it.  Collective Wisdom is very Powerful raising the vibration of anyone engaging with it – lifting you out of Mediocrity into a life of Extraordinary!

10. What sparks your creativity? Any tips to help others spark their own creativity?

Creativity flows for me when I am relaxed, centered and reconnect with my spirit.

The quickest way for me to do that is to become still, take a few deep breaths, feel my feet on the floor to ground, then ask for divine assistance and allow possibility to enter.

Being out in nature always inspires me, awakening my sense of touch, taste, smell as well as sight to take in the beauty in the surroundings to uplift and inspire creativity.

Having an Epsom salt bath with Lavender essential oil releases tired negative energy, creates negative ions and rebalances the body and mind to enable regeneration of the creative spirit

Listening to arias or wonderfully uplifting music re-energises my creative spark  

 

11. What do you think motivates people to become authors? What motivated you to get into this unusual industry?

I am sure there are many reasons people choose to become authors but for me it is something I had wanted to do for a long time to anchor all the ideas and experiences in my life and reach out to share those. 

Having a book or piece of work that you have written solidifies and makes tangible the intangible arena of thought and emotion, putting it into a form to gift others so they can receive the expression you came to give from your essence.

Wow that was deep where did that come from!  See what happens when you put thought, emotion and spirit in form, it gets carried away!!

 

12. If a potential reader thinks that your book wouldn’t interest them, what would you say to convince them to buy?

I would say ‘Life gives you many moments of choice – between settling or risking,  fear or courage,  surviving or thriving, mediocrity or extraordinary,  being the passenger or the driver in life.    This book gives you Bigger Choices.
